Security Tips For Rodeo Contestants

Most Rodeos are held in Public Venues where contestants and their animals regularly come into contact with rodeo fans, general public, local residents, etc. Most are well meaning fans… some are not. Here are some tips to help you keep yourselves, your animals and your equipment safe.

Your Animals

Security problems in the Barn area can be greatly reduced just by being aware of strangers and strange behavior. Most rodeo competitors know each other and their families. Look out for yourselves and your friends by questioning or reporting anyone or anything out of the ordinary.

1. Take notice of anyone who does not belong in the barn areas or who is unknown to you (especially after hours)

2. Ask an unknown person what they need or if you can help them if you see them in or around other persons stalls or trailers. Take note of their answers or behavior.

3. Take notice of strange vehicles in the Barn area.

4. Report any strangers or strange behavior immediately

5. Don’t leave feed buckets in stalls after feeding time

6. Don’t leave halters on horses or hanging on stalls

7. Take turns with other competitors to do security checks in the stall areas at different times during the night. Report anything out of the ordinary immediately.

8. Make sure the Number to a local Vet is posted in various spots in the barn area.

Your Equipment

1. Lock your trailers and trucks

2. Keep equipment stowed out of sight even if it is between events

3. Report anything missing immediately

4. always check your trailer attachments before pulling out ( even if you never unhooked)

Yourself

1. Never go anywhere by yourself especially after dark. There is safety in numbers!

WATCH OUT FOR EACH OTHER!

Whether you’re registering a new truck, car or trailer or renewing your current registration – ask for a Rodeo State License Plate!

The Rodeo State Charitable License Plate provides a significant source of funding for the Reno Rodeo Foundation and the Nevada State High School Rodeo Association, as the charitable proceeds from this license plate are shared equally between these two organizations. The Rodeo State plate is one of the most popular charitable plates in Nevada and we hope you’ll choose to proudly display it on all of your vehicles and trailers!

How it Works

The DMV registration fees from the sale of the Rodeo State charitable license plate directly supports the Reno Rodeo Foundation’s scholarship and community grant programs.

The initial fee for this plate is $61, ($36 for the license plate fee and $25 to be divided equally between the Reno Rodeo Foundation and the NSHSRA). The renewal fee is $30, ($10 for the license plate renewal and $20 for the support of the Reno Rodeo Foundation and the NSHSRA).

Just ask for a Rodeo State License Plate when registering or renewing your vehicle registration at your local DMV office.
